Another show, another audition

Last December I won the third prize in a Christmas cake contest and this got me a nice call from the casting office of a new French TV show about pastry. It will be a competition like Masterchef, but a bit less stressful. The format is taken from the UK show “The Great British Bake Off” of which I have seen several episodes on YouTube.

Needless to say I was excited because I was offered a preferential lane to audition for the show! I just had to bring a cake of my choice to Marseille.

And to Marseille I went, and showed them this…

Raspberry tart

… a rhubarb and lemon tart with fresh raspberries (indecently copied from Lenotre, but you’ve got to start somewhere).

I was very pleased with the result, and so was the lady who interviewed me.

“Interviewed me”, right… as any respectable audition, there was a (filmed!) interview that started quite well and then degenerated with bizarre questions! 😛

I’m still not 100% fluent in French, but ça va, I can understand and make the others understand me: but if somebody asks you “In the kitchen, what noise would you be?“, I assume it is legitimate to think “Did I understand well? Did she really say that?”. 😛

In the end, I hesitated a bit with questions like this and threw some silly answers on the table (the questions were not that clever either), so I really don’t know how the audition went.

I will have the answer in two weeks, fingers crossed!

Hi, my name is Rob, I work in IT but I love baking and I also got a pastry diploma. I created this blog to keep track of my journey from complete beginner to world pastry champion (I'm not there yet).
