While the village itself was a bit different from what I had imagined (read: disappointing), another thing made my trip worth a blog post: <strong>the Tarte Tropezienne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tarte-tropezienne.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-872\" alt=\"Tarte tropezienne\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tarte-tropezienne.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"716\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tarte-tropezienne.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tarte-tropezienne-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is a famous cake created in the 50&#8217;s by <strong>Alexandre Micka<\/strong>, a Polish pastry chef who had moved to St Tropez. He was chosen to provide pastries for the whole of cast and staff of a <strong>movie production<\/strong> that was taking place right in<strong> St. Tropez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/brigitte-bardot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-873\" alt=\"brigitte  bardot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/brigitte-bardot-237x300.jpg\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/brigitte-bardot-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/brigitte-bardot-300x378.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/brigitte-bardot.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the actors was <strong>Brigitte Bardot<\/strong> herself, who tasted (and loved) the cake, and she suggested the name &#8220;Tarte de St. Tropez&#8221;: Micka changed it later in <strong>&#8220;Tarte Tropezienne&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>registered the recipe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> recipe has stayed the same through the years<\/strong> <em>(I&#8217;m afraid I can&#8217;t say the same of Brigitte Bardot)<\/em>, and<strong> the &#8220;original&#8221; cake<\/strong> can be found in St. Tropez at any of the <strong>bakeries<\/strong> which are very imaginatively called &#8220;La Tarte Tropezienne&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The cake is made of a <strong>brioche<\/strong> filled with a sort of <strong>pastry cream and buttercream<\/strong> (you know, the kind of lightness you need when it&#8217;s 45\u00b0 outside), with a delicate flavour of <strong>orange blossom<\/strong>. I can&#8217;t really tell you more, because when I asked what the filling was made of, the only answer I got was: &#8220;Oh no, sorry, <strong>the recipe is a secret<\/strong>!&#8221; :-O<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had been longing for months to go to St. Tropez, about two hours of congested traffic away from Cannes.
