{"id":688,"date":"2012-09-24T00:04:21","date_gmt":"2012-09-23T22:04:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/?p=688"},"modified":"2013-01-24T00:26:54","modified_gmt":"2013-01-23T23:26:54","slug":"the-religieuse-of-a-world-champion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/pastry-shops\/the-religieuse-of-a-world-champion","title":{"rendered":"The religieuse of a World Champion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For my first time in Paris, how could I avoid visiting the patisserie of <strong>Christophe Michalak<\/strong>, a <strong>pastry World Champion<\/strong> who is constantly on French TV?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/michalak.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-689\" alt=\"michalak\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/michalak.jpg\" width=\"204\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every time they mention his name on TV, they also say that he is the <strong>pastry chef at the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e hotel<\/strong>&#8230; so that was my destination on a sunny afternoon in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, first of all, it&#8217;s strange, I don&#8217;t know where the pastry shop entry is&#8230; I wander around a bit, then decide to enter (with my humble sweatshirt and jeans) in the <strong>5-star hotel<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plaza-athenee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-690\" alt=\"plaza-athenee\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plaza-athenee.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plaza-athenee.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plaza-athenee-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; to discover that actually <strong>there is NO pastry shop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is only a <strong>&#8220;salon de th\u00e9&#8221;<\/strong>, so no way to see all his product on sale behind a glass. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>The other <strong>bad news<\/strong> was that, whatever you took, the price was <strong>16\u20ac<\/strong>. A thin slice of cake? A religieuse? 16\u20ac.<\/p>\n<p>Just think that bakeries usually sell a religieuse in a range of 2-6\u20ac normally. <strong>I was being robbed<\/strong>, exactly.<\/p>\n<p>But I had got lost in Paris, cycled and walked a lot to get there, <strong>I couldn&#8217;t desist<\/strong> just then, so I sat down and ordered a <strong>religieuse<\/strong>, one of <strong>Michalak&#8217;s most famous desserts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/religieuse-michalak.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-691\" alt=\"religieuse-michalak\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/religieuse-michalak.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/religieuse-michalak.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/religieuse-michalak-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no need to say that <strong>it was stunning!<\/strong><br \/>\nI was not at ease in that chic hall, so I felt a bit nervous all alone there and now I cannot remember what was the filling of the religieuse, probably <strong>Japanese matcha tea and pistachios<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was pure pleasure, probably <strong>the best dessert I&#8217;ve eaten in my entire life<\/strong>&#8230; and it had me struggling to understand how a religieuse, which is so simple, could taste so good!<\/p>\n<p>I left the hotel with a full stomach and a sad feeling because I won&#8217;t go there again for some time (considering the price, it is not so bad for my wallet)&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For my first time in Paris, how could I avoid visiting the patisserie of Christophe Michalak, a pastry World Champion who is constantly on French TV?
