I think they look <strong>amazing<\/strong> (even if in the book they looked much nicer and regular), and they taste good as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/264305_10150237915527105_1655389_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-503\" alt=\"Checkerboard cookies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/264305_10150237915527105_1655389_n.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/264305_10150237915527105_1655389_n.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.roadtopastry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/264305_10150237915527105_1655389_n-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They require quite some time to make, and it is fundamental to<strong> respect the recipe<\/strong> and <strong>let the dough rest in the fridge several times <\/strong>(otherwise it will start to melt, since it is full of butter).<\/p>\n<p>These cookies are made of <strong>two different doughs<\/strong> (one with cocoa powder, one with vanilla extract) that are rolled out, ideally to the same height (this is hard).<\/p>\n<p>Then the two doughs are put one on top of the other, and the resulting <strong>dough is cut in two<\/strong>: the second part is then <strong>put on top of the other<\/strong>, so to have 4 layers.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, thin slices of these 4 layers are cut and then <strong>assembled in an alternated way<\/strong> to achieve the <strong>checkerboard<\/strong> effect.<\/p>\n<p>In short, challenging, but rewarding! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I&#8217;m very proud! \ud83d\ude42 I was able to make some checkerboard cookies with a black and white pattern!
